SKELDAR V-200 at Swedish Air Show 2016

The Swedish Air Force is celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2016. As part of the celebration there will be two days of displays and an exhibition at Malmen, Linköping, on 27 and 28 August where the SKELDAR V-200 will be a star.

001The SKELDAR V–200 – manufactured by UMS SKELDAR, a world leader in the design and manufacture of both vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) and fixed wing high-endurance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) – is a versatile system for a wide range of applications such as reconnaissance, identification, target acquisition and electronic warfare. A number of COTS high resolution EO/IR, SAR and EW sensors are available. A medium-range UAV system, the SKELDAR V—200 can hover for hours while providing real-time information to a control station or to a remote video terminal. It is fully autonomous, commanded by high-level-commands such as “Point and Fly” and “Point and Look”, and designed for a range of land, maritime and civil applications.

In March, UMS SKELDAR extended its manufacturing capabilities. In addition to its existing manufacturing base at Möhlin, Switzerland the extra capacity is located in Linköping in Sweden and forms a part of its wider strategic growth plan for 2016 and beyond.

Jakob Baumann, CEO
According to Jakob Baumann, CEO of UMS SKELDAR: “We regard both Sweden and Switzerland equally as home to our company. Following the landmark agreement between UMS Aero and Saab at the start of this year, it made complete sense for UMS SKELDAR to operate facility in Linköping under its own brand, not only because of the ease by which we are able to integrate the manufacturing expertise from Saab for the SKELDAR V-200, but also to add the capability of organising demonstration flights close by. Naturally we wanted to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Swedish Air Force and our proud heritage in Sweden.”

Following the creation of the joint venture business overnight, UMS SKELDAR became Europe’s only provider of both Rotary and Fixed Wing platforms. Headquartered near Basel in Switzerland and employing upwards of 50 employees across the globe, the company provides a total solutions capability globally, including development, manufacturing, testing, training, consultancy, maintenance, managed services and finance options (incorporating purchase/leasing and lease purchase).
