UMS SKELDAR integrates UMS AERO and Saab technologies to become Europe’s only provider of both Rotary and Fixed Wing platforms

New force in the UAV market provides high endurance capabilities in global civilian, security and defence sectors.

The landmark agreement between UMS AERO of Switzerland and Sweden’s Saab to join forces and combine unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technologies and platforms as UMS SKELDAR has created one of the world’s largest designers and manufacturers of remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS). The collaboration with Saab produces a truly global force in the mid-range market providing a strategic role for platforms in military, civilian and security sectors and provides maritime capabilities.

UMS SKELDAR, Europe’s only provider of high endurance vertical take-off (VTOL) and fixed wing UAVs. brings together four platforms to create Europe’s most versatile UAVs, with a comprehensive solutions portfolio specialising across the 3-12+ hour endurance range including: the fixed-winged F-330 and F-720, and the Rotary R-350 and Skeldar V-200. UMS SKELDAR’s solutions package expands beyond the product and provides services of associated systems including ground stations, communications links and data terminals together with managed services, providing pilots and systems to implement, through to a range of finance packages. The company will showcase the new line-up at the Singapore Airshow 16-21 February.

With managed service contracts and order books in South East Asia and Middle East markets, the company is well placed to develop its profile and presence, supported by expert personnel under the direction of chief executive Jakob Baumann, former two star general (MG) in the Swiss armed forces. He explained:

The strategic partner line up of UMS SKELDAR includes civil and military aviation specialists from a range of countries such as CWT, South East Asia’s largest logistics business in the Middle East, Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Investments Company (ADASI) and Elektronik-System-Gesellschaft mbH (ESG).

UMS SKELDAR, owned by UMS AERO Group Ltd (53%) and Saab AB (47%) is headquartered near Basel in Switzerland, with twin manufacturing facilities in Switzerland (Möhlin) and Sweden (Linköping), and employs upwards of 50 employees across the Globe.
